Czech Solar has built a solar power plant on a reclaimed landfill in Germany and plans to expand further westside.
Prague, 16.1.2019
At the end of December 2018, Solar Global Service a.s. from the group of Vítězslav Skopal’ Solar Global a.s announced the completion of a large solar power plant project in Germany. The installed capacity of the newly completed photovoltaic power plant in the Bavarian town Schönwald is 668 kWp. The power plant was built on a three-hectare reclaimed landfill and the cost of its construction was around € 730,000.
The solar park is built in a combination of polycrystalline modules, mounted on special concrete pads, corresponding to local climatic conditions and environmental conditions for reclaimed landfills. Testing will begin in January 2019.
Solar Global has been expanding to Germany and further to Western European markets, where we are mainly attracted by a stable renewable energy environment and a positive overall relationship with modern energy that is missing in the Czech Republic," said Vítězslav Skopal, owner of the group.
The cooperation with the Czech company in the construction of the new solar park is also praised by the Mayor of Schönwald Klaus Jaschke: “The town of Schönwald has made a great effort to rehabilitate the former dump to create the conditions for the construction of a photovoltaic power plant. Because of the former landfill, there had higher demands and requirements for construction than on other plots. Solar Global cooperated very well with the authorities. We are delighted that the photovoltaic power plant will be connected to the distribution grid and we thank for the excellent cooperation during the construction and we wish successful operation."
Unlike the Czech Republic, Germany supports the construction of solar parks on so-called “brownfields”, landfills and other areas, like supporting of roof photovoltaic installations. The number of operating subsidies is in no way exaggerated. In case of this project, the subsidy is € 84.4 per MWh, while the so-called peak-load prices on the German market are around € 60. Than only about € 25 per MWh on average is covered by state. According the law the energy producer must sold produced electricity directly on the wholesale day-ahead energy market.
There is a huge untapped potential of brownfields, landfills and other degraded industrial areas for the potential construction of solar power plants in the gigawatt ranges and it has been for long time pointed out by the Solar Associations. In the latest draft of laws on photovoltaics above 1 MW, the Ministry of Industry and Trade does not even count on “plans of auctions” for renewables after 2021, which has been criticized by associations supporting the development of renewable sources such as the Solar Association or the Union of Modern Energy.
Solar Global Group
In the Czech Republic Solar Global Group owns and operates 25 solar parks with a total installed capacity of 36.5 MWp. Solar Global Service a.s., one of the leading service provider for solar power plant operators in the Czech Republic, provides services of 68 MW PV plant with a total installed capacity of over 97 MWp.
